About Moodbidri - The Jain Kashi
Moodbidar is an ancient Jain temple which is situated about 35 km from the coastal city of Mangalore, Karnataka. We all know about the vast multi-pillar statue in Shrababeelgola, but you do not know that Jainism is an integral part of Karnataka's cultural and ethnic cloth. I searched a little bit around the city and around Moodbidri Jain temple.Come with me to roam around this city full of Jain temples known as Basadi. There are 18 main temples or buses. About 10 of them are located on the same road which is known as Jain Temple Road. In fact, in the literature it has been said that 18 temples, 18 lakes and 18 roads in Mudbadi are connected to the villages. I could definitely see 18 or more Jain temples. There are some big and small roads, although I could not calculate their number. I did not see any lake or pond except a temple. I feel that in the last few hundred years mankind's development has taken a toll on the lakes.
History of Moodbidri
Thousand Pillars temple - Mudabidri's most famous Jain temple
Moodbread comes from two words: Moodu & Bidru respectively means east and bamboo. I think the bamboo was grown here. At present, you rarely see any bamboo plantation in the area. It is full of coconut and arrika nut trees. It is a bizarre town on the Mangalore-Karakal road - it is a part of Tulu Nadu. For a long time in South India Moodbills have been the center of Jainism. One of the Jain tehthankars - the oldest recorded idol here is related to Parsnath. The legend is that while traveling through this region, Jain monks saw a cow and a lion playing together. The monks took this as a sign of a place of worship and decided to establish a temple here. As a fate, when he was cleaning the ground for the temple, he found a stone statue of Parvnath. The story is not unusual. This story is associated with many holy places all over the country.

Architecture of Moodbidri Jain temples
Temples in Mudbadi are called Basi - Sanskrit word derived from the fate - which means there is a place to live.
All the temples are built using Beam and Lintel techniques - they predict for any effect from Central Asia. The use of stone is ash gray in color. In the Roof there is local architecture - slanging them in red with Mangalore tiles on them.
In addition to the thousand pillars, most of the temples are small and the head of the house is a prominent idol of the deity. The names of temples sometimes come from the Gods and sometimes even those who make them. Some Jain temples get names from the people of Shetty community.

When I planned to travel to Moodbidri, this Jain temple was the main attraction for me. There are a few thousand pillars in India, so I was eager to see this less known Thousand Pillars Temple. Located at the end of a small lane, it is a lovely temple. You see the construction of white in the name of Gopuram, named after the temple written on top.
